Our firsts...

Here is a list firsts that this household has experienced recently.

1. We had our first garage sale, earning a grand total of about $500.

2. We were in the process of planning some sort of Texas vacation. Not the case anymore, see items 6 & 7. Jonny was in desperate need of a vacation.

Life lesson: If you want to make plans for something in advance, keep quite about it or something else will take its place. This quote comes to mind, If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans! Story of our life folks!!

3. Mia deliberately said "Dada" as she stretched her chubby little arm and hand towards her daddy! That day she logged in about 5 of those. Maybe one more since then...June 29th, 2008

4. Mia's first tooth!!! July 1, 2009...8 months old

5. Mia's first ear infection!! woohoo right, what a great first...she is not handling it well. I am not handling it well. Jonny is really not handling it well...although I ask myself why? The snot is flowing like Niagara falls, added to that a cough, added to that the tooth coming in, added to that her parents keep trying to force antibiotics down her. Have you ever given meds to someone who REALLY does not want them? Result: sticky pink cheeks, neck, back, mommy's arm as she holds her back, mommy's finger as she tries to stop the meds from gushing out of her mouth, splatter marks all over mommy as a result of Mia's highly develop ability to project anything touching her lips that she doesn't want--I mean I don't even have to have the meds in her mouth before she is spitting, it is really quite impressive...Mia is currently recieving 2 baths a day as a result, no washcloth can even begin to eradicate all the stickiness. Oh, I forgot to add her sticky pink hands and fingers from swatting the syringe away as violently as possible. It really isn't a pretty sight, one which I just can't wait to not have to witness.

Life lesson: being a parent isn't always glorious and will mean that you might have to appear as a barbarian for the greater well being of your children.

6. Jonny's first staph infection. Yep, that's right and boy is it a doosy. His knee, calf, and ankle, could very well have been mistaken for a 300 pound linebacker's from the NFL. yeah,  not pretty.

7. Jonny's first PICC line.
***as a side note, I would have pictures of all of this first hand but my camera is not functional at the time. So sorry, as much as I would rather share all this through pictures, it's words you get.**

Back to this picc line. Why would he have this you might ask? Well...as a result of his staph infection he is currently taking antibiotics every 12 hours for 4-6 weeks through and IV. No human should have to be stuck that many times, hence the need for this picc line. We just hook up his meds, no needles involved. And thank goodness for that...I missed this and feel very upset that I did, but, after finally realizing that he needed to go into the doctor (after a week of his knee slowly swelling) he went into urgent care. The doc there mashed on it for a bit and sent him to on orthopedic doctor. That doc briefly mashed on it, and by mash I just mean poke at it, then sent him to an infection specialist. The next day in the infection specialist's office they tried to administer his first round of high powered antibiotics, at which time Jonny lost all consciousness at the sight of the needle. A very groggy and confused Jonny called me after that to let me speak to the nurse so that she could tell me that he didn't exactly have fun and needed to go to the hospital to put this picc line in so he could begin to receive his meds. I then drove him to the hospital and was really excited to see him pass out at the sight of the needles involved in getting this line put in. Dumb doctor is all I have to say...he wouldn't let me in with him. I mean, seriously, Jonny needed his ultra supportive wife by his side for this and he wouldn't let me go back. Now those who know me, know that I am the least confrontational person you will ever meet, but not that day, I was almost on my hands and knees begging him to let me go back with him. Didn't work though. Jerk! Jonny is currently on his second cooler full of antibiotics, which, thankfully, we think, are starting to work.

Pretty stinky few weeks, but the fog is lifting my friends, it is lifting...

Wow, see what you miss when you're gone for weeks?!?! Tell Jonny we hope he's ok. Did you try to slip some of that fancy Dr. Pepper (I don't remember what it's called) into his picc line? :)
